FIFA Brings Shakira Back After 16 Years

Sixteen years after Waka Waka became one of the most iconic sports anthems in history, Shakira is back and the world could not be more ready. The Colombian superstar has officially returned for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a brand new song titled Dai Dai, a collaborative project with Nigerian artist Burna Boy.

The 49-year-old singer teased the track on Instagram from the legendary Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, where she had just performed a massive free concert for an enormous crowd. The full song is set to drop on May 14, just weeks before the tournament begins. The teaser clip racked up 1.9 million likes in less than 24 hours, proving that the excitement around Shakira and the World Cup is as strong as ever.

Dai Dai is described as a catchy reggaetón-tinged Afrobeats track that blends both Shakira and Burna Boy’s musical worlds together perfectly. The title itself is an Italian phrase meaning “Come on, come on,” which fits the energy of a World Cup anthem perfectly. The song features Shakira singing in both English and Spanish.

This is actually Shakira’s fourth connection to FIFA World Cup music. She performed Hips Don’t Lie at the 2006 closing ceremony, sang the iconic Waka Waka for the 2010 tournament in South Africa, and contributed La La La for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11, with the final scheduled for July 19 in New York. The United States, Mexico, and Canada are jointly hosting the tournament. Fans online are already calling Dai Dai the anthem of the summer.
