Pakistani actress Saba Qamar has reportedly been granted the UK’s Global Talent visa, a route that will let her take up professional work in the United Kingdom. The visa category is designed for individuals recognized as leaders or emerging leaders in fields such as arts, culture, film, television, and digital technology.
The Global Talent visa, introduced by the UK Home Office in February 2020, does not require a job offer or employer sponsorship. Applicants must first receive an endorsement from an approved UK body, such as Arts Council England for those in the creative and cultural sector, before applying for the visa itself. It allows holders to live and work in the UK for up to five years, with the option to apply for permanent settlement after three to five years, depending on the endorsement type.
Saba Qamar, born in Hyderabad, Sindh, and raised in Gujranwala and Lahore, is one of Pakistan’s most recognized and highest-paid actresses. She began her career on television in 2005 and has since built an extensive body of work in Urdu drama serials and films. She is widely known for projects such as “Baaghi,” “Cheekh,” and “Manto,” and gained international attention for her role opposite Irrfan Khan in the Bollywood film “Hindi Medium,” which brought her a Filmfare Award nomination. She has also received multiple Lux Style Awards and Hum Awards over her two-decade career.
The visa is expected to open new opportunities for Qamar to work on UK-based film, television, or creative projects.
