Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif celebrated his 75th birthday on Tuesday, September 23, 2026, while in New York on an official trip to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He was born on September 23, 1951, in Lahore.
Shehbaz Sharif is the younger brother of three-time former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and currently heads the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as its president. Before becoming prime minister, he served three separate terms as chief minister of Punjab, making him the longest-serving person to hold that post, known for pushing large infrastructure projects and running an efficient administration. He first became prime minister in April 2022 and returned to the office again in March 2024, making him the only Pakistani leader to hold the post for two separate terms.
The prime minister arrived in New York on Monday, September 21, ahead of the high-level UNGA meetings, which run from September 22 to 26, with a final sitting on September 28. This year’s session carries the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.” PM Shehbaz is scheduled to address the assembly on September 25, where he is expected to speak about Kashmir, Palestine, and other regional and global issues, while stressing the importance of dialogue and peaceful solutions to conflicts.
He is also likely to raise concerns about climate change, terrorism, and economic challenges facing developing nations, along with holding meetings with world leaders and the UN Secretary-General.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and other senior officials are accompanying him on this trip. Dar has his own busy schedule during the visit, including a UN Security Council session on artificial intelligence and a meeting on pandemic preparedness.
This marks yet another milestone birthday spent on the world stage for Shehbaz Sharif, who is currently serving his second term as prime minister of Pakistan.
