Senior Pakistani actress Bakhtawar Mazhar is winning hearts across the country for her deeply moving role as Saeeda in the hit ARY Digital drama Dr Bahu, and it turns out, the performance is rooted in real-life pain.
Taking to Instagram, Bakhtawar shared a heartfelt note alongside behind-the-scenes photos and videos, revealing that she had lost four close family members and a childhood friend to cancer, and that two young cousins were still bravely fighting the disease.
She said this personal connection made her extremely mindful while portraying the role, and her foremost aim was to preserve authenticity, not just in physical appearance, but in capturing the true emotional reality faced by cancer patients and their families.

In Dr Bahu, Bakhtawar plays Saeeda, a phupho who returns from the USA to Pakistan seeking treatment for ovarian cancer. In a particularly emotional episode, her character confronts her reflection after losing her hair due to chemotherapy, a scene praised online for realistically portraying the struggles cancer patients face during treatment.
