Tariq Aziz is remembered as one of the most important names in Pakistani television history. He is often called the man who brought live game shows to Pakistani TV screens, and his style of hosting is still talked about today, decades later.
Tariq Aziz was born on 28 April 1936 in Jalandhar, Punjab, and became famous for hosting PTV’s quiz show Nilaam Ghar, which first aired in 1974. The show was later renamed the Tariq Aziz Show and then Bazm-e-Tariq Aziz. He was also the first person to appear on Pakistan Television when it began broadcasting.

His game show was special because it let ordinary people from across Pakistan take part and win prizes by answering questions. It was the first television show in Pakistan to have mass audience participation, sponsorships, and big prizes, with major companies supporting different rounds. The show ran for decades and became a permanent part of family entertainment in Pakistani homes.
Apart from hosting, Tariq Aziz also worked as a poet, writer, actor, and even a politician. He served as a member of Pakistan’s National Assembly between 1997 and 1999. He was honoured with major awards for his services to broadcasting, including the Pride of Performance.
Tariq Aziz passed away on 17 June 2020 in Lahore, at the age of 84. Even today, his unique voice, famous slogans, and warm hosting style are remembered fondly by generations who grew up watching his shows.
