A Pakistani film called Mera Lyari, made under the Sindh government, has entered the race for an Oscar nomination. The news was shared after a meeting of the Sindh Information Department’s Film Board.
Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, chaired the meeting to review how the province’s film projects are progressing. Officials discussed ongoing projects, future plans, and possible partnerships with OTT streaming platforms. The board also confirmed that the first phase of the Information Department’s film projects has now been completed.
The government is also in talks with both local and international OTT platforms and institutions to arrange screenings, distribution, and promotion for its films.
Speaking about Mera Lyari, Memon said its place in the Oscar race brings honour to Pakistan and especially to Sindh. He added that if the film goes on to secure a nomination, it would be a major achievement, putting Sindh’s art, culture, and creativity in front of a global audience.
Memon also said the government wants to turn Sindh into a filmmaking hub and give local talent more chances to work on national and international projects.
The meeting was attended by Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, Director General Information Moez Pirzada, Director Films Hizbullah Memon, and board members Waqas Rizvi, Salim Khan, Ehtesham Ansari, and Rab Nawaz.
