Actor and model Mariam Michael has opened up about a personal part of her life that she had kept hidden for years, her marriage at the age of 17 and her divorce just two years later, at 19.
Sharing her story on social media, Mariam said she wanted to challenge the shame often attached to divorce, especially when it comes to women. She explained that she had chosen to keep this chapter private for a long time, but later realised that staying silent only gives shame more power. She added that she no longer wishes to feel ashamed of a part of her life that helped make her who she is today.
Instead of calling her divorce a failure, Mariam described it as a mature and mutual decision made by two young people who weren’t ready for marriage at that stage of their lives. She said the separation happened without anger or blame, and that both she and her former husband have since moved on with no resentment between them. She also said she wishes him well.
Mariam used her post to question why society treats divorce as something shameful, especially for women, when sometimes it’s simply two people realising they aren’t right for each other. She said no one should feel forced to hide or erase a part of their past.
Looking toward the future, Mariam shared that if she marries again, she hopes it will be with someone who accepts her full journey, not just the easy parts. Her honest post has resonated with many followers online, especially women going through similar experiences.
