Kajol’s Comments on Pakistani Dramas Have the Internet Talking

Bollywood actress Kajol has once again put Pakistani dramas in the spotlight, but this time, the conversation has a sharper edge.

Back in 2014, Kajol openly praised Pakistani dramas in an interview with The Express Tribune, saying her mother-in-law followed them religiously and that she herself was “really impressed.” She praised the content quality and the pleasant sound of the Urdu language, and pointed out that Indian TV producers had a lot to learn from the shorter, crisper format of Pakistani serials.

But more recently, A video is going viral claiming Kajol said Pakistani dramas have nothing left but vulgarity and hypocrisy, sparking heated debate across social media.

The timing is notable. Pakistani dramas have themselves been under fire at home for pushing boundaries. Some of the most-viewed dramas of 2025 were criticised for extremely problematic content; one popular show was called out for scenes that had nothing to do with the story and were added purely to sensationalise the drama.

Even Pakistan’s own media authority has raised alarms. PEMRA issued a statement saying drama themes had become “quite bold and not reflective of the majority of Pakistani society,” warning that unnecessary glamour and bold scenes were ignoring the country’s religious, social, and cultural values.

Kajol’s comments, whether praise or criticism, always land loudly, because Pakistani dramas have a massive fanbase across India, and her voice carries weight on both sides of the border.
