Global pop sensation Dua Lipa is taking one of the world’s biggest tech companies to court, and she means business.
British pop star Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics in a California federal court, seeking at least US$15 million in damages. She accuses the South Korean tech giant of using her image without permission to market its television sets.
The lawsuit alleges that Samsung featured a copyrighted photo of the star on the front of cardboard boxes containing televisions for retail sale, allowing the company to benefit from what appeared to be her endorsement of the product.
The specific image in question is titled “Dua Lipa – Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024,” and Lipa holds all rights to it.
Besides copyright and trademark infringement, Dua Lipa has also accused Samsung of breaching her publicity rights. Her lawyers attached screenshots of social media posts showing fans commenting that they would buy the TV simply because Dua Lipa’s face was on the box.
The “Levitating” singer first found out about the alleged misuse in June 2025 and asked Samsung to stop, but the company repeatedly refused.
Her legal team argues that Samsung’s actions caused damage to her brand identity and commercial goodwill by falsely suggesting to the public that she endorsed the products. Samsung declined to comment, citing pending litigation.
This case is a strong reminder that even global corporations must respect a celebrity’s right to their own image.
