Indian actor Disha Patani is set to make her Hollywood debut in Holiguards Saga, The Portal of Force, and she recently shared what it was like working with and being directed by Kevin Spacey.
Disha said Spacey encourages actors to act from their own instincts instead of just following the script. She said he understands actors well and gives them plenty of room to experiment, often asking them to think about how they would personally react to a scene.
She also spoke about Spacey’s hands-on approach on set. He would sit with the cast every morning and walk them through each scene before filming began. Disha said this made her feel more responsible for truly understanding her character, something she hadn’t experienced with other directors before.
Talking about breaking into Hollywood, Disha said it takes more than just talent. She explained that things like representation, auditions, visas, and accessibility all play a big role. Sometimes, she said, it also comes down to destiny and being noticed at the right time by the right people.
She added that being physically present in the country matters too, since it’s hard to land international roles from a distance. Actors need to travel, stay for a while, and put in the work in person, she said, adding that this applies to breaking into any country’s film industry, not just Hollywood.
Disha will next appear in Awarapan 2 with Emraan Hashmi before her Hollywood debut alongside Spacey, Dolph Lundgren, and Tyrese Gibson.
