Lawyer and veteran TV host Naeem Bukhari has stirred a heated debate online after sharing controversial views about caring for sick, elderly parents. He made these comments during an appearance on the podcast “Lunch with Lilas.”
Bukhari spoke about his own parents’ deaths, saying he did not cry when his mother passed away because her illness had gone on for too long. He described a moment when she was in a coma, and he pleaded that she should either recover or pass on. When someone in the room asked him to be more respectful since his mother might still hear him, he said he was speaking from the heart.
He also shared a story about visiting a doctor whose bedridden father had been suffering in pain for two years. Bukhari suggested that in such situations, ending suffering through medical means would be more humane, and said: “A sick man, be it your father or your mother, is a burden.”
His comments caused strong reactions on social media. Many people criticised him harshly, saying such thinking goes against the love and respect parents deserve. Some called his words insensitive and said parents never abandon children during illness, so children shouldn’t either. Others expressed concern for his mental state.
However, a few users defended his right to share a personal opinion, especially regarding the pain of watching a loved one suffer for a long time. The debate continues to spread across social platforms.
