In a landmark moment for Pakistani fashion, designer Hussain Rehar has become the first Pakistani fashion designer to present an installation at the Cannes Film Festival. Hussain Rehar debuted at the 79th Cannes Film Festival 2026, marking a major milestone for South Asian fashion on the global stage, exhibiting on May 15th at Château St. George.
The installation, titled Lahore: A Knot in Asia’s Loom, is described as a decolonization story told through the lens of Lahore, craftsmanship, and Asian authorship. The project ties together the cultural identity of Lahore with the broader narrative of South Asian creativity and resilience, themes that are deeply personal to Rehar as a Lahore-based designer.

Hussain Rehar is one of Pakistan’s most celebrated fashion names, known for bold designs and a strong sense of cultural storytelling. Earlier this year, a solo showcase at the historic Islamia College Lahore demonstrated his ability to use architecture and space to create immersive fashion experiences, a preview of the ambition he would carry to Cannes.
Rehar is known for his signature bold color-blocking, tribal motifs, and 3D floral embroideries, design elements that speak loudly of South Asian identity on any international platform.
His Cannes debut is more than a personal achievement. It opens a conversation about Pakistani artisanship and its rightful place in global cultural spaces. As Pakistani representation at Cannes grows, with models, filmmakers, and now fashion designers, Rehar’s installation signals that the country’s creative voices are ready for the world stage.
