Singer Shae Gill has responded after fans online began comparing her song “Insecurity” with actress-singer Hania Aamir’s new track “Pablo,” with some accusing Hania of copying her sound.
The comparisons picked up steam after Gill posted an acoustic version of “Insecurity” to celebrate the song’s first anniversary. Because the timing coincided with the buzz around “Pablo,” several fans assumed Gill’s post was a subtle dig at Hania. One social media user even commented that Hania should learn not to take inspiration from other artists’ work, which fuelled further discussion in the comments section.
Gill clarified that this was never her intention. She said she has never been the type to target others and pointed out that she released her original song around the same time last year, so sharing an acoustic cut now was simply a way of marking the anniversary. She added that she couldn’t see how that counted as a diss and said she wasn’t going to keep explaining herself in every comment. She encouraged fans to simply enjoy whichever song or drama they liked.
The acoustic version received warm responses from fellow musicians and influencers, with several praising the track and asking for a full release.
Gill first gained wide recognition through her Coke Studio collaboration “Pasoori” with Ali Sethi. “Insecurity,” her solo single with producer Mushtaq Elektrik, came out a year ago and was later featured by Spotify as part of her growing international listenership.
