LEGO Builds World’s Largest FIFA World Cup Trophy in New York

New York City is now home to the world’s largest LEGO version of the FIFA World Cup Trophy. The giant model was made by LEGO and FIFA together to celebrate the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The trophy stands 8.47 metres tall and has been recognised as the largest mobile LEGO structure ever built. It was shown to the public at Rockefeller Plaza, where former Brazilian football star Cafu helped fans place the last few bricks. Cafu said the real World Cup Trophy is a famous symbol in sports, and building it with LEGO bricks felt amazing. He added that football brings people together, and this model shows how loved the sport is around the world.

Making the trophy was no small task. A team of 59 designers, engineers, and builders worked more than 7,000 hours to complete it at a workshop in the Czech Republic. The whole project took about eight months. The final model is built from over 1.36 million LEGO bricks and weighs close to 4.2 tonnes, with a steel frame inside for support. Since it was too big to move in one piece, workers built it in 16 separate sections before shipping and joining them together in New York.

The trophy is the main attraction of LEGO’s new Fan Zone, open free to the public from July 6 to 19. Visitors can also build with LEGO bricks, design their own minifigures, and help create a group brick mural. LEGO has also released new football-themed minifigures of stars like Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappé, and Vinícius Júnior.
