Kuwait’s Shortest Marriage: Bride Demands Divorce 3 Minutes After Wedding Over One Word

Most people expect their wedding day to be one of the happiest of their lives. For one Kuwaiti bride, it turned into a courtroom moment, just three minutes after she said: “I do.”

After the ceremony concluded, the couple began to leave the courthouse when the bride stumbled. Instead of helping her, the groom called her “stupid” for slipping.

Outraged by his behaviour on their wedding day, the woman marched right back into the courtroom and demanded a divorce. The judge granted her request, making it what many reports called the shortest marriage in Kuwait’s history.

The incident originally happened in 2019 but resurfaced on social media and went viral in recent times. Online reactions were swift and strong; many users praised the bride’s decision, pointing out that a partner who mocks you in your most vulnerable moment on your wedding day reveals a great deal about their character.

Kuwait already has high divorce rates. Statistics released by Kuwait’s Ministry of Justice showed that around 60 per cent of marriages in the country ended in divorce, with “interest-driven marriages” cited as a major reason.

The story resonated globally because it touches on a universal theme: the importance of respect in a relationship. Many pointed out that if a groom cannot show basic kindness in the first three minutes of marriage, the bride made the right call walking away. Sometimes the fastest decisions are also the wisest ones.
