Veteran Pakistani actor Hina Dilpazeer has spoken candidly about the emotional demands of acting and what she sees as the decline of quality writing on Pakistani television. She shared her thoughts during a conversation with actor and host Vasay Chaudhry, posted on YouTube this week.
Dilpazeer, best known for playing “Momo” in the long-running comedy Bulbulay, said real acting means letting go of one’s own identity completely to convincingly become someone else. She compared the profession to stepping into a “sea of fire,” warning newcomers that half-hearted commitment will not work in this line of work. Whether a role is serious or funny, she said, she puts in equal effort — a heavy scene can leave her emotionally drained, while comedy offers audiences a break from their troubles.
She also opened up about the hardest moment of her career: returning to a comedy set only days after her father passed away. Acting cheerful and funny for the camera while privately mourning, she said, was the toughest challenge she has ever faced professionally.
Turning to the current state of local dramas, Dilpazeer said many shows today suffer from poor storylines, even though television has the power to influence public opinion. She also warned that actors chasing quick fame risk losing focus on their craft, calling the pursuit of stardom a trap that can swallow a genuinely serious career.
