British rapper Dutchavelli, whose real name is Stephan Fabulous Allen, was reported in 2022 to have converted to Islam. A video shared on social media at the time showed him reciting the Shahadah, the declaration of faith that a person says to formally become Muslim. He also reposted the same clip on his Instagram stories, which many took as confirmation of the news.
Dutchavelli, who was born in Birmingham, is known for songs like “Only If You Knew” and “Surely,” and has worked with artists such as Stormzy and M Huncho. Before he became a well-known name in UK drill music, he spent time in prison, including a sentence linked to firearm possession. He has often spoken openly about that period of his life and the struggles he faced growing up.
According to reports from 2022, the rapper was said to have converted to Islam while in the UAE, where he had been posting photos and stories around that time. Some outlets had also claimed before the video surfaced that he had started reading the Quran and other religious texts regularly, although he had not confirmed this himself at that stage.
Many fans reacted with messages of support online, with one social media user writing that they hoped he would find guidance and peace after the difficulties he had faced in his personal life.
Dutchavelli’s reported conversion came around the same time as similar reports involving other public figures in the UK, which added to the attention the story received on social media.
Neither Dutchavelli nor his team has issued a lengthy official statement beyond the video shared online, and most of what is known comes from that footage and the reactions it generated at the time.
