Actress and model Amna Ilyas has responded sharply after showbiz commentator Dr Ejaz Waris criticised her dance performance at the recent Sunday Icon Awards, reportedly calling it “cheap.” The criticism came as part of Waris’s wider review of the event, where he also raised concerns about the show’s organisation and choreography.
Amna did not let the comment slide. In her response, she accused Waris of moral policing women through his remarks and said this kind of commentary does more harm than people realise. She said such criticism, when framed around a woman’s body or performance, can end up encouraging negative and controlling attitudes toward women in society.
She pointed out that while she has the platform and confidence to brush off this kind of judgment, many other women don’t have that privilege. According to her, when public figures validate controlling or moralistic opinions about how women should behave or perform, it puts less privileged women at real risk of facing backlash or restrictions in their own lives.
