Fashion designer and actor Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, better known as HSY, has spoken openly about his difficult relationship with his father and how the two eventually found peace after years apart. He shared the story during a recent appearance on the FWhy podcast.
HSY said he was raised mainly by his mother in the United States, along with his sister, after his father was largely absent from their lives. He noted that his father did not support his education, his career, or even his sister’s wedding. Despite the distance, he said his mother never encouraged him to resent his father, and it was her influence that eventually led to their reconciliation when HSY was around 35 years old.
He explained that the two reconnected after his father suffered a stroke and had lost much of what he once had. At his mother’s urging, HSY stepped in to support him, taking on his father’s care for the next 15 years. He said that after his father passed away, he took time to reflect and consciously chose to forgive him, realising that despite everything, he still loved him. HSY added that he has never spoken negatively about his father, even though the relationship caused him considerable pain over the years.
The candid conversation drew a warm response online, with fans and fellow celebrities, including actor Imran Abbas, praising HSY for his openness and compassion.
