Sajjad Ali Clears the Air on Copyright Controversy Over His Music

Singer Sajjad Ali has spoken out against a controversy claiming he refused to allow Pakistan Idol contestants to perform his songs, while the same tracks were used on Indian television shows. Taking to Instagram, the singer clarified that copyright issues exist worldwide and are not unique to Pakistan.

Ali pointed out that his songs are appreciated by people from other countries, giving the example of international artists like Diljit Dosanjh, who covered his popular song “Ravi.” He explained that he came across a video of two Indian children singing the same song beautifully and wanted to praise them. However, because the clip aired on an Indian channel, many people criticized it, questioning why Pakistan Idol contestants couldn’t perform his songs.

The singer made it clear that he has never given any Indian channel permission to use his music, stating that they use his songs without authorization. He added that his team would look into the matter.

Addressing the yearlong Pakistan Idol debate, Ali said much of it was based on inaccurate information, denying reports that he held a press conference specifically about the issue. He explained that international franchises operate under strict licensing agreements involving multiple artists and large budgets, and that self-financed artists cannot simply give away rights to their music.

He urged fans to verify facts before spreading claims, stating that misinformation should not be allowed to harm an artist’s reputation.
