Tamil actor Jai, best known for his close association with Vijay Thalapathy, has sparked widespread conversations online after opening up about his decision to embrace Islam. Jai recently spoke about his religious conversion during an interview with Galatta Plus, and his candid remarks quickly went viral.
The actor shared that he had earlier practiced both Hindu and Christian traditions and respected all religions equally. However, certain unpleasant experiences and humiliation he faced at some temples deeply affected him emotionally.
Jai revealed that his interest in Islam began around 2011 through interactions with his Muslim friends. He also made it clear that his spiritual choice had nothing to do with any slowdown in his film career.
What truly moved Jai was the sense of equality he experienced inside a mosque. He shared that inside a mosque, no one is treated differently based on their status, even celebrities are not seen as special, and everyone is given space to pray without being pushed away. He described the feeling as similar to yoga, calm and deeply personal.
Though he confirmed his conversion, Jai has not officially changed his name yet, but is considering adopting the name “Aziz Jai” in the future.
The actor remains active in Tamil cinema and was recently seen in Sattendru Maarudhu Vaanilai.
