Pasoori Becomes the First Pakistani Coke Studio Song to Hit 1 Billion Streams

Pakistani music just achieved something never seen before. “Pasoori,” the breakout hit from Coke Studio Pakistan’s 14th season, has crossed one billion combined streams on YouTube and YouTube Music. This makes it the first song in Coke Studio’s history to reach that number, and one of the biggest global wins for Pakistani music so far.

Sung by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill, and written by Sethi along with Fazal Abbas, “Pasoori” first came out in February 2022. It mixes classic Punjabi sounds with a modern beat, and that fresh combination is a big reason it spread so fast. People loved it not just in Pakistan, but in India and many other countries too.

The song’s journey to the top was quick. Within months of release, it became the most-watched Coke Studio video ever on YouTube. It later appeared in the Disney+ Hotstar series “Ms. Marvel,” which introduced it to even more viewers around the world. In 2023, Indian label T-Series even released a Bollywood version called “Pasoori Nu” for the film “Satyaprem Ki Katha.”

Coke Studio’s producer, Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan, known as Xulfi, shared the milestone on social media. He called it an “unbelievable blessing” and thanked the fans who kept streaming and sharing the song.

“Pasoori” proves that Pakistani music has real staying power on the world stage, and this record may just be the beginning of more milestones to come.
