Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui has shared an emotional personal story after watching the Indian film “Main Vaapas Aaunga.” He said the movie’s theme of longing for a lost home reminded him strongly of what his own family went through during the 1947 partition of British India.
Siddiqui posted about his reaction on social media, saying he watched the film with his heart breaking, and that its story of home and belonging stayed with him long after. He explained that the story felt personal because it echoed what countless families experienced on both sides of the border when India was divided, calling it a promise his ancestors had carried with them.

What happened next made the moment even more powerful. Soon after he watched the film, a man named ObaidUr Rahman from Ghazipur, India, sent him a video of an old family house, or haveli, in a village called Pahetiya in Uttar Pradesh. Siddiqui said this was the very house where his father and grandfather had lived and grown up before Partition forced the family to leave. He described watching the video in tears, looking at old bricks, walls and windows that carried memories he had only heard about, never lived himself.
Siddiqui was born in Lahore after his father moved there from Uttar Pradesh, and the family later settled in Karachi. He is well known for his role in the popular drama “Mere Paas Tum Ho” and made his Bollywood debut in the 2017 film “Mom.”
“Main Vaapas Aaunga,” directed by Imtiaz Ali, tells a story about relationships broken apart by displacement during Partition, and stars Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari and Vedang Raina. It released in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
