The lightning appeared to strike the upper section of the famous tower, briefly lighting up the night sky. The footage quickly attracted attention online, with many people sharing the striking view of lightning meeting one of Makkah’s most recognisable landmarks.

The incident was reported on August 26 and 27, 2026, as Makkah experienced rainy and stormy weather. Saudi astronomer and researcher Mulham Hindy also shared footage showing the lightning reaching the tower during the weather activity.

The Makkah Royal Clock Tower is part of the Abraj Al Bait complex near the Grand Mosque. The tower is one of the most prominent structures in the city and is widely recognised for its large clock faces.

Similar lightning strikes have been captured at the tower during previous storms as well. The latest footage once again drew attention to the powerful weather conditions affecting the region.
