Actor, writer, and director Yasir Hussain is coming back to the stage with a new comedy play called So Suite. This time, he is choosing Lahore as the first city to host his show, and it will be staged at the Alhamra Arts Council.
Hussain shared the news himself on Instagram. He posted about the play and said it will premiere “soon” in Lahore. The project is being backed by the Punjab Information and Culture Department. Hussain is writing and directing the play, and going by his past work, fans are guessing he might also take on a lead acting role, just like he did before.
This new play follows his last big theatre hit, Monkey Business, which was loved by audiences across Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. That comedy did so well that after its first show in April, it returned to Karachi again in December due to popular demand.
In Monkey Business, Hussain played a struggling actor named Mr Waseem, who tries to trick a welfare system by pretending to be injured. Things get even messier when an inspector shows up to check if Waseem and his wife, who pretends to be deaf, are telling the truth. The mix of lies and funny misunderstandings made the play a big success.
Talking about his upcoming project, Hussain described So Suite as his most chaotic, funniest, and most spectacular show yet. This has fans excited, expecting another wave of laughter, first in Lahore, and hopefully later in other cities too.
Theatre fans have already started showing support online. One fan commented that this news reminded them of legendary comedians like Moin Akhtar, Umer Sharif, Majid Jahangir, and Ismail Tara, showing how much people miss the golden days of Pakistani stage comedy, and how Hussain’s work is keeping that spirit alive.
With Monkey Business still fresh in people’s memory, expectations are high for So Suite. If it lives up to Hussain’s promise of being his “most chaotic” work yet, theatre lovers in Lahore are in for a treat.
