Popular Pakistani YouTuber Saadur Rehman, known as Ducky Bhai, has responded to criticism that his vlogs negatively affect children. He questioned why parents don’t take more responsibility for what their children watch online.
During a recent interview, Rehman was asked about claims that content creators like him have a bad influence on young viewers. He turned the question back and asked where the child’s parents are if a child’s behaviour is being affected.
He explained that watching YouTube is a personal choice, and parents have the power to control what their kids see. Sharing his own childhood, Rehman said his parents never gave him a phone or an iPad when he was young. Instead, they told him he would get a game console like a PlayStation 2 only if he scored good marks in his matric exams. He added that his father used parental-control software on the family computer to keep track of his online activity.
Rehman asked why other parents cannot set similar limits if they are worried about their children’s screen time. He said he does not believe his own content harms children, but added that if parents think certain content is unsuitable, they should control access to it themselves. He even jokingly offered to take on the responsibility of parenting if others struggle with it.
He also pointed out that nobody is forced to watch YouTube or his videos. He compared watching his vlogs to other everyday choices, saying it is not something forced on anyone, unlike school activities.
His comments have sparked conversation online about who is really responsible for children’s online habits: content creators or parents.
