Veteran Pakistani host and actress Uzma Tahir has made a bold revelation about the entertainment industry, speaking openly about the casting couch culture that has long existed behind the scenes.
Uzma Tahir is a well-known face in Pakistani media with nearly 24 years of experience. She has appeared in popular dramas including Utray Ga Na Ab Koi Khizar, Saathiya, Qurbat, and Mera Dard Bezubaan, and gained wide recognition through her crime show Khufiya. She currently hosts for 24 News HD.
Uzma recently appeared on a podcast called Notice, where she openly discussed the casting couch reality in the media industry.
She shared that despite being educated, confident, good-looking, and a skilled actress, she and her colleagues, including Beenish, Madiha Iftikhar, and Sherry, were always cast in second or third lead roles, never as the main lead. When she questioned a producer about this, he gave her a meaningful reply suggesting she “could also be” a lead, making it clear what was expected in return.
Uzma explained that those actresses who accepted such offers were driven by their desire for money or fame, while she and her peers refused to compromise their dignity. That refusal, she says, is why she eventually moved into crime reporting instead.
