Pakistani social media star Jannat Mirza has spoken out against an AI-generated video that used her face without her permission, calling for strict punishment of people who misuse someone’s identity through artificial intelligence.
The controversy began after a realistic AI-manipulated clip started circulating widely on social media platforms this week. The video placed Mirza’s face into a Bollywood-style scene alongside an AI-generated lookalike of another content creator. While many users found the edit amusing and shared it as light entertainment, Mirza said she was disturbed by it.
Sharing the video on her Instagram along with a message, Mirza wrote that the clip was not funny and carried real consequences. She said using someone’s face without consent to make misleading or inappropriate content is a serious issue, adding that if it happened to her today, it could happen to any other woman tomorrow, putting her dignity at risk.
Mirza, one of Pakistan’s most followed TikTok personalities, acknowledged that artificial intelligence is a powerful tool but stressed it should not be used to create deceptive or harmful videos of real people. She called for strict legal action against those who misuse someone’s face or identity without permission.
Her comments come amid growing concern in Pakistan over AI-generated deepfake content, with several public figures targeted by manipulated videos in recent months. Digital rights groups have repeatedly urged stronger enforcement of existing cybercrime laws to address the misuse of AI tools against individuals, especially women.
