Pakistan’s entertainment world is mourning a personal loss for one of its most beloved legends. Dr. Arshad Majeed, husband of legendary singer and actress Musarrat Nazir, has passed away peacefully at the age of 88 in Ontario, Canada. He was born in 1937 and breathed his last on May 24, 2026. The news was shared by the family through Facebook and an online obituary.
Musarrat Nazir, born on 13 October 1940 in Lahore, is one of the leading actresses of Pakistani cinema, having starred in both Urdu and Punjabi films during the 1950s and 1960s. Her accolades include three Nigar Awards and the prestigious Pride of Performance Award, presented by the President of Pakistan in 1989.

She is considered one of the most authentic Punjabi vocalists, famed for timeless wedding songs like Mera Laung Gawacha, Lathe Di Chader, and Chitta Kukkar — songs that remain a staple at Pakistani weddings even today.
Musarrat Nazir married Dr. Arshad Majeed, and the couple moved to Canada in 1965, after which she gradually stepped away from the spotlight. She is also the aunt of celebrated actresses Bushra Ansari, Sumbul Shahid, and Asma Abbas, and the grand-aunt of Zara Noor Abbas.
Fans and admirers across social media have been pouring in heartfelt condolences, praising Dr. Arshad Majeed for his kind-hearted nature and graceful personality, while offering prayers of strength and patience for Musarrat Nazir and her family in this difficult time.
