Singer Aima Baig has shared that her upcoming debut album, Guriya, is a tribute to her late mother, calling the project a journey through grief, healing, and self-discovery.
In a recent interview, Aima explained that the album marks a new chapter in her life as she learns to live with the loss of her mother, who passed away in 2017. She shared that her mother’s name was Guriya, and that grief changes shape as life moves forward, making the loss feel heavier with time. She described the album as her own story, told on her own terms, rather than a response to public criticism.
The singer also said she would give up any success she has achieved just to have her mother back by her side. Working on the album meant going through old memories and her mother’s belongings, a process she called painful yet meaningful. Several well-known artists feature on the project, including Atif Aslam, Asim Azhar, Qasim Hasan, Raheel, and Mubashir.
Beyond the music, Aima spoke about the pressures of fame in Pakistan and how spending time in London gave her space to heal. She also addressed a leaked video involving her and singer Bilal Saeed, clarifying it was filmed during a project shoot, and said the attention it received unexpectedly promoted an unreleased song. She pushed back against claims that the incident reflected badly on Pakistan, saying she always represents her country with pride.
Reflecting on growing up in the public eye, the 31-year-old said people often mistake public controversy for who she truly is, and that she now wants to be known for her music and skill rather than attention alone.
No release date for Guriya has been announced yet, but Aima continues to tease new music on social media.
