Veteran Pakistani actress Sabahat Bukhari has opened up about a painful chapter of her life, revealing that she was separated from her daughter for nearly 30 years due to a bitter family dispute after her first marriage ended.
Speaking on a podcast, Bukhari shared that her first marriage did not last long, and her daughter was taken away by her in-laws when the child was only about one and a half years old. She said she fought the case legally at the time but was never allowed to meet her daughter. Her former in-laws later moved to a new address, making it impossible for Bukhari to trace her child.
According to Bukhari, her former husband told their daughter that her mother had died, and the girl grew up believing this for decades. It was only after her father’s death, nearly 30 years later, that the family finally told her the truth about her biological mother. The daughter then reached out and found Bukhari through social media, leading to an emotional reunion between mother and daughter after a lifetime apart.
Sabahat Bukhari, born in Lahore in 1968, has worked in Pakistani television since the 1990s, starting as a newscaster on PTV before moving into acting. She has appeared in popular dramas including “Baby,” “Hari Hari Churiyaan,” and “Sanam.” Her candid revelation has drawn widespread sympathy from fans and the public online.
