Pakistani actor Syra Yousuf has taken on a new role behind the camera, announcing her debut as a producer with the short film “Shireen,” directed by Ali Mehdi. The project also marks the launch of her production company, SYCinemagic.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Syra described the film as a personal project, saying it represents something she has wanted to build for some time: a platform to support storytellers and creators whose work deserves to be seen. She added that something is rewarding about helping bring someone else’s vision to life.
The announcement received warm responses from fellow industry figures, including actors Adeel Husain, Laila Wasti and Aamina Sheikh, as well as musician Bilal Maqsood of the band Strings, all of whom congratulated her on the new venture.
Syra is widely recognised for her television career, which began with “Mera Naseeb” in 2011. She has since appeared in several popular dramas, including “Bilqees Kaur,” “Tanhaiyaan Naye Silsilay,” and more recently “Sinf-e-Aahan,” where she played a Christian girl from Lahore pursuing a place at the Pakistan Military Academy. On the film side, she starred in the 2023 movie “Babylicious” alongside her former husband, Shahroz Sabzwari.
With “Shireen,” Syra now adds producing to a career that has largely been built in front of the camera.
