Hafeez Tahir, the creator of the classic Pakistani TV series Ainak Wala Jin, has strongly criticised a new AI-generated film based on his show, saying it was made without his permission or knowledge.
The AI-based film adaptation was released in cinemas this July, and Tahir accused the producers of using his work without asking him first. In a video shared on Instagram, he called the situation a case of “daylight robbery” and urged fans to speak up about it.
In the video, Tahir explained that he had created the original concept, title, and story for Ainak Wala Jin, and had also directed the series when it first aired in 1993. He said he later sold the rights to a private TV channel, which still earns strong viewership from the show on YouTube today.
Tahir said neither the filmmaker nor the cinema that released the new AI film sought his permission before using his creation. He argued that turning the beloved series into an AI-generated film damaged its original spirit, changing the characters’ looks, voices, and music. He specifically pointed out that Nastoor Jin, the show’s lead character, now looks nothing like the original and instead resembles a completely different figure.
He ended his message by asking fans whether he should stay silent or take legal action against the makers of the film.
Many viewers responded with support, criticising the growing use of AI in creative work, while others shared how much the original series meant to their childhood memories.
Ainak Wala Jin originally aired in 1993 and ran for 152 episodes. The fantasy series followed Nastoor Jin, a genie played by Shahzad Qaiser, who travels to the human world searching for a cure for his poor eyesight.
