Veteran Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh has shared a heartwarming memory from his time working on the Bollywood hit Om Shanti Om. In a recent interview, Sheikh said he did not want to take any payment for playing Shah Rukh Khan’s father in the 2007 film, calling it a huge honour instead.
Sheikh explained that when director Farah Khan began discussing his fee, he told her, “Money? I won’t take it.” He said being chosen as the only Pakistani actor for such a big Indian film meant more to him than money. He even offered to work for just one rupee as a symbolic gesture.
However, Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan refused to let him work for free. Sheikh said they insisted on paying him properly and, in the end, gave him a generous deal out of respect and goodwill.
The actor also spoke fondly of his bond with Shah Rukh Khan, saying the superstar treated him with great care and respect throughout filming. Though they have not stayed in close contact since, Sheikh said their friendship on set was warm and memorable.
Beyond the film, Sheikh also opened up about his early struggles in showbiz, including a strict father who once tore up his clothes for wanting to become an actor. He recalled facing career setbacks, including nearly being replaced in a film due to earlier box office failures, before finally finding success.
Javed Sheikh remains active in the industry today, appearing in recent projects like Delhi Gate and Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum.
