Pakistani celebrities flooded social media with reactions after Spain defeated Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday night. While many stars celebrated Spain’s victory, others were left heartbroken over the loss of their football hero, Lionel Messi, and Argentina’s defeat.
Actor Adnan Siddiqui was among the first to react, posting a picture of Spain lifting the trophy on Instagram. “Well played, Spain. No offense to Messi and Argentina fans, but tonight felt like comparing Wi-Fi to dial-up,” he wrote, joking that Egypt would have “unfollowed football for a week” had Argentina won.
Actor Talha Chahour shared side-by-side photos of Messi and Spain’s young star Lamine Yamal, writing that “FIFA’s favourite child didn’t get the favour today.” He also praised Yamal’s support for Palestine, saying he was waiting to see the player raise the Palestinian flag again. Actress Mawra Hocane and singer Maanu also highlighted Yamal’s pro-Palestine stance in their posts.
Actors Danish Taimoor and Arslan Naseer congratulated Spain as well, with Naseer joking, “Did the Argentina team come to play or watch?” Actress Zara Noor Abbas shared a selfie with Yamal on her TV screen, while singer Asim Azhar wrote that “Messi deserved it, Argentina did not.” Azhar, who said England was actually his favourite team in the tournament, also shared a post from Barcelona, saying he was pleasantly surprised by the large Pakistani community living there.
Actress Zhalay Sarhadi took a sharper tone, writing, “When you stand on the wrong side of history, it’s bound to get ‘Messi’.” Aijaz Aslam also congratulated Spain and wrote that he was rooting for Argentina because of Messi’s spell.
Meanwhile, several stars celebrated Spain’s win, including Maria Wasti, Naimal Khawar, Mariyam Nafees, and Sana Javed. Actor Aijazz Aslam also congratulated Spain, admitting that he had switched his support during the tournament.

On the other side, Messi’s fans mourned the result. Singer Samar Jafri had written “One last time! Let’s go, my king” before the final. After the loss, he still called Messi “the greatest ever to step onto this field.” Musician Raamis later shared a video of Jafri taking the defeat with a smile.
