Karachi’s business community is mourning the death of Mir Raza Ali, the 25-year-old owner of the popular dessert chain Wafflix, located near Bahadurabad Chowrangi. He was found dead after allegedly being kidnapped from his home.
According to police, Raza went missing in the early hours of July 28. He had returned home from his shop late at night and told his mother he was stepping outside for about 10 minutes. He never came back. When his mobile phone turned off and he couldn’t be reached, his worried family searched for him and contacted the emergency helpline Madadgar 15, before filing a kidnapping case at the local police station.
His body was later found in bushes near a wedding hall in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Police say the body appeared to have been there for one to two days and had visible burn marks, which made identifying him difficult. His father was ultimately able to confirm his identity through his clothing.
Police officials, including SHO Kamran Qureshi, said early findings suggest Raza may have been tortured before being shot. Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage and phone records to trace his final movements. Reports say he had booked an online taxi before reaching a kitchen he used for his food business, and it’s believed the abduction happened sometime after that.
Raza’s death has caused shock and sadness across social media, with friends, customers, and fellow entrepreneurs sharing tributes and condolences. Many have also raised concerns about the city’s law and order situation, calling for a swift investigation and justice for the young businessman.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and the motive behind the killing is still being determined.
